In a live-action feature film, there are typically
screenings at the end of the day's shooting. These are known as
"dailies". In computer animation, we use digital files
instead of film, but we do have routine visual checks by the director
and producer to ensure the movie is proceeding as planed. We call
these "Digital Dailies".
Most films provide a "behind the scenes" look at the
production process after a film is, as they say in Hollywood,
in the can. While this brief glimpse into the making of a film
is interesting, it only shows a retrospective of the project and
everyone involved.
What these Digital Dailies offer is something that has never
been done, a window to the world of the reality of the animation
process. The postings on this site (while slightly delayed) are
what actually occur on our virtual set. You can see and read it
all: the good, the bad, and the ugly. We hope that students, burgeoning
animators, and film enthusiasts alike can all learn from and appreciate
what is involved in the making of a computer animated movie. Education
is the key to unlocking everyone's creative potential.
Enjoy the Digital Dailies and be sure to check out our main site,
www.delgo.com,
for news updates about the movie.
